Our client is a large-scale manufacturing company, among the leaders in their field, with an international presence. They specialize in the manufacture and distribution of a wide range of hardware products. They are currently looking for a manufacturing engineer for their plant on the south shore of Montréal.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, your job will be to improve production and assembly processes in order to improve the performance thereof, to improve quality control in manufacturing methods, to analyse the possibility of reducing packaging with various product categories, and to contribute to the improvement of the process of integrating new products in cooperation with the marketing and purchasing team.

  • Carry out any other task related to your duties.
  • Establish an action plan for measures to be implemented and for improvement goals;
  • Develop, maintain, and lead the continuous improvement program through Lean Manufacturing tools; improve the communication process between the various parties involved;
  • Improve and monitor product quality; produce and check technical drawings including specifications;
  • Serve as a liaison in the interactions between operations and marketing and as the go-between when new products are introduced;
  • Help design and develop innovative products using the right components and materials, keeping in mind the goal of improving product package and assembly;
  • Review and analyze product packaging in order to decrease the number of sizes as well as the costs and to facilitate the manufacture thereof;
  • Act as a facilitator and motivator to help employees with production- and manufacturing-related tasks to reach the goals that have been set for them;
  • Do cost analyses; recommend and implement the necessary measures to optimize savings;
  • Support the production team in creating and updating the working instructions and methods, optimizing work tools, managing standard hours, etc;
  • Manage special projects (layout of the plant, introducing new products, etc.);
  • See to it that manufacturing processes are optimized, working closely with the Director of Operations;

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or other relevant education and training;
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the manufacturing sector;
  • Experience with plastics processing and polymer extrusion are considered significant assets;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Functionally bilingual (spoken and written French and English);
  • Proficient with the MS Office suite, computer-aided drawing software, and an ERP-style management system;
  • Experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment is an asset;
  • Able to multitask, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
