The Corporate Controller is responsible for maximizing return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.

MAIN TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
  • Achieve budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Develop, improve and issue timely monthly financial records for the Executive team and the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met including Withholding Payments (CPP, EI), Income Tax, Goods and Services Tax.
  • Reconcile bank and investment accounts; and manage cash flow.
  • Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments.
  • Interface and negotiate with outside audit firms(s), banks and lessors, casualty/liability insurance agent(s), credit card companies, vendors and collection agencies; reviewing all financial contracts, financing agreements and insurance policies.
  • Participate and lead the annual year-end audit process with the external auditors.
  • Manage the bookkeeping function, including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
  • Support month-end and year-end close process.
  • Maintain accounting staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or any other relevant field
  • CPA designation required
  • Must have at least 8 years of related work experience, and 5 years in a managerial position

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and internal control principles.
  • Experience with preparation of financial reporting for a public company, accounting standards, financial modelling, budgeting, internal controls, system implementation, treasury and cash management.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills to evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations on business issues.
  • Proficient in complex spreadsheets design (MS Excel SuperUser).
  • QuickBooks, MS Dynamics
  • Well-developed written and oral communications skills.
  • Bilingual (French – English)
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
