Our client is a consultant firm specializing in electromechanical building engineering, as well as working on construction projects of a technological nature. Their client base is primarily institutional and commercial. They are currently looking for a senior building mechanicals engineer.

Nature of position

Working in cooperation with company management, your job will be to develop and oversee the mechanicals team to ensure that technical work is carried out in compliance with client requirements. Moreover, you will be called upon to carry out draft-design studies and to contribute to efforts associated with the realization of projects, particularly with producing plans and specifications and providing services during and after construction.

  • Ensure that work done on projects is of sufficient quality and that work processes of the discipline are followed for each project;
  • Carry out administrative work or the discipline;
  • Establish and maintain an environment that fosters ethical and professional practices in engineering works;
  • Evaluate the performance of the department's employees;
  • Provide assistance to the technical staff;
  • Evaluate costs related to life cycle, especially maintenance and operations costs;
  • Write up the technical specifications and reports necessary for projects to be carried out;
  • Perform calculations related to the discipline;
  • Design systems such as: cold and hot water supply system, steam system, complex ventilation, air humidification and dehumidification, plumbing, specialized systems (purified water, medical gases, laboratory services, data centres, etc.);
  • Serve as a technical reference person for members of the building mechanicals team;
  • Oversee projects, meet with clients, coordinate the team's work around other disciplines and ensure that client requirements are respected;
  • Produce and oversee field studies, when required;
  • Carry out energy optimization studies;
  • Make sure that projects for which you are responsible are profitable;
  • Supervise the production of reports and write up reports, plans, cost estimates for work to be done, and, from time to time, take on certain construction site supervision responsibilities;
  • Ensure that engineering work is carried out in keeping with the firm's quality standards;
  • With help from staff, maintain and revise design criteria, procedures, spreadsheets, and software used in the discipline;
  • Ensure that work schedules and budgets are followed and respected;
  • Supervise the design process for building mechanical systems, including plumbing, heating, ventilation, and controls, while maintaining the highest standards of energy efficiency and sustainable development;
  • Develop and maintain the department's production capacity and maintain a high calibre of competency in the field by recruiting qualified staff;

Required qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, specializing in building mechanicals;
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with building mechanicals;
  • A good amount of experience in the field of engineering consulting;
  • Member of l’Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec;
  • Fluent in spoken and written French and English;
  • Well-acquainted with the institutional, commercial, and light industrial realms, particularly in a university environment;
  • Knowledge of ACAD and REVIT is an asset;
  • LEED AP accreditation is an asset.
