Our client, a company whose mission is to manage, operate and maintain various transport infrastructures, whose activities are divided into engineering, construction and maintenance operations is currently seeking, in order to continue his grow, a project director.

Nature of position

You will ensure that budgets and established deadlines are respected for all contracts (engineering, construction, monitoring, quality control, communication) relating to the project portfolio. In addition, you will perform planning, document management, communications management, procurement, monitoring of professional service mandates and construction contracts, as well as monitoring of quality assurance processes. You also act as a coordinator with department directors (planning, engineering, construction, administration, legal and communication), to ensure the allocation of the resources necessary for the proper execution of projects. As such, you will :

  • Responsible for all project activities and decisions for the Champlain Bridge deconstruction project and its implementation for all project phases ;
  • Develop and track the project schedule ;
  • Prepare the budget and participate in the process of preparing annual budgets for current expenditure and capital, as well as in the development of the five-year plan of the Company by providing the relevant data as requested by the Planning and Finance Department ;
  • Prepare and ensure budget monitoring representations to general management and the Board of Directors as part of the project monitoring committee, all in accordance with budget approval standards ;
  • Plan and ensure the execution of deliverables, costs, forecasts and deadlines for all professional service contracts related to the project and verify the overall status of these aspects through oversight and monitoring ;
  • Help develop and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual project progress reports ;
  • Direct activities related to the launch of new contracts that are part of your project and whose implementation will have an impact on all activities ;
  • Follow up on and monitor planning, document management, communications management, and procurement activities to ensure the project is carried out smoothly ;
  • At project start-up, create a project charter and project plan and coordinate collaboration with functional departments (Engineering and Construction) ;
  • Through your leadership, train and direct project team members from different departments (engineering team and other human resources assigned to different project phases) to deliver the project under your responsibility while adhering to the scope of the work, deadlines, costs and quality standards ;
  • With the support of the Project Coordinator and PCO, regularly meet with the members of your project team to decide on the project milestones ;
  • Supported by the Project Coordinator and the PCO, regularly bring together the members of his project team and decide on the stages of the project ;
  • Manage risks in terms of upholding quality, meeting deadlines, and following the budget associated with the project and, in accordance with guidelines, approve all changes to engineering and construction contracts that are within the project’s budget envelope if these changes affect the project ;
  • Make teamwork a focus of your duties ;
  • Collaborate with other Project Directors to ensure consistency in management methods ;
  • Once the project is complete, perform a review of the different project aspects (technical, contractual, management, etc ;
  • Carry out any other tasks compatible with your functions.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil engineering an assert) or any other relevant training ;
  • Master's degree in project management (an asset) ;
  • Have a minimum of 15 years of experience in project management, including 5 years as project director in the construction industry for large-scale projects ;
  • Be a member in good standing of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Quebec (OIQ) ;
  • Relevant experience in managing a multidisciplinary team or experience with team leadership ;
  • Have good writing skills and be able to understand and interpret plans, specifications and technical drawings ;
  • Have strong interpersonal skills, a very good team spirit, interpersonal skills, tact, diplomacy, very good political sense and have experience of working with many stakeholders ;
  • Be a particularly good communicator; communicate proactively, clearly, concisely, and effectively with stakeholders at multiple levels and have media experience ;
  • Stand out through your understanding of a matrix project environment, your work organization skills, and your ability to manage or supervise multiple projects simultaneously ;
  • Demonstrate influential leadership, be able to motivate your colleagues and be highly adaptable ;
  • Ability to transmit knowledge constructively ;
  • Focus on planning, coordination and be able to understand and present an overview of its projects ;
  • Respect objectives and deadlines and exercise good judgment in decision-making ;
  • Have good knowledge of Office suite software (Excel, Word, Outlook and Access) and MS Project ;
  • Bilingualism in French and English, written and spoken ;
  • Have ASP certification to work at a construction site and have a valid class 5 driver’s license ;
  • PMP certification (asset).
