Our client is a company specializing in the design, manufacture and maintenance of lifting and handling systems. They are currently looking for a mechanical design engineer for their facilities in the Quebec City area.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Head of Engineering, your job will primarily consist of carrying out design and modernization work on a range of lifting and handling equipment.

  • Work with various internal stakeholders on equipment design based on client bids or estimates;
  • Draw up innovative concepts related to equipment design;
  • Carry out the calculations necessary for designs;
  • Solve technical problems related to equipment design;
  • Prepare blueprints and drafts in order to complete layout and design drawings for a wide variety of projects;
  • Derive, interpret, and summarize engineering data;
  • Ensure that projects comply with industry standards and with client expectations;
  • Carry out feasibility studies, as well as studies on the design and performance of mechanisms, components, and systems;
  • Plan and oversee projects; prepare materials, cost and time estimates, reports, and design specifications relating to the equipment;
  • Visit client sites in order to propose innovative solutions;
  • Take measurements or surveys of clients' equipment;
  • Offer technical support to on-site staff;
  • Carry out any other task related to your duties.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant design experience;
  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec;
  • Experience designing lifting and handling equipment is considered a significant asset;
  • Fluent in spoken and written French and English;
  • Proficient with parametric 3D design software such as SolidWorks;
  • Knowledge of lifting standards such as CSA B167-2008 is considered a significant asset;
  • Experience with project management (an asset);
  • Available to travel occasionally; must have a valid driver's licence;
  • Membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario and/or the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia is considered an asset.
