Our client is a multinational company and an industry leader in the production of baked goods. They are currently looking for a Director of Maintenance for their plant on the south shore of Montréal.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the plant manager, your job will be to supervise the team related to this department (a buyer, a maintenance supervisor, and a team of electrical mechanics) spread over three shifts and weekend hours. In addition, you will regularly report to the Head of Engineering in the United States.

  • Manage the maintenance department in keeping with the established standards and budget;
  • Manage various improvement projects for the equipment and facilities in order to achieve established quality standards and performance and cost goals set by the plant, while establishing an appropriate priority ranking;
  • Manage the process of making improvements to the preventative maintenance program in order to minimize interruptions and maintain quality, efficiency, hygiene, and cost standards, etc.;
  • Examine and manage all investment projects with the head of engineering projects in order to ensure that work is carried out in a timely fashion, taking into account the company's budgetary priorities;
  • Determine how automatons are to be appropriately programmed;
  • Actively participate in accident prevention in the plant; take part in the Health and Safety Committee and follow up on changes and improvements to be made;
  • Contact and meet with contractors to obtain bids to carry out work in the plant; rank work to be done in order of priority, in cooperation with the other departments concerned; inform contractors and subcontractors of their obligations and the conditions for the awarding of contracts;
  • Actively participate in achieving compliance and in following up with external parties for contracts, inspections, and special requirements, notably from: the CSST (Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail du Québec), Environment Canada, WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System), SIMDUT (Système d'information sur les matières dangereuses utilisées au travail), AIB food safety (and others such as BRC), insurance, the city, and other federal and provincial organizations;
  • Revise various management reports in order to validate that information and data are precise and accurate for various players at the plant (the plant manager, production, etc.);
  • Manage a team of unionized employees, in keeping with the terms of the collective agreement and company policy;
  • Oversee the development and training of your team in order to maintain a well-informed, experienced, and productive team;
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships and two-way communication with your colleagues and all other staff members.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or any other related field, or an equivalent combination of studies and practical experience in the field;
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in the unionized manufacturing sector.
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley programmable automatons is an asset;
  • A high level of competence with the Microsoft Office Suite and SAP is an asset;
  • Familiar with HACCP standards;
  • Bilingual (French and English).
