Our client, a company whose mission is to manage, operate and maintain various transportation infrastructures, whose activities are divided into engineering, construction and maintenance operations, is currently looking for a Research and Development Engineer - Asset Management, in order to continue improving the quality and efficiency of its services.

Nature of position

Reporting to the Director, Environment and Sustainable Development, you will actively collaborate in the implementation and renewal of the management's environmental and sustainable development action plan and in the achievement of its objectives. These objectives include, among others, the implementation of environmental risk assessment and control, environmental compliance, biodiversity enhancement of biodiversity, characterization, inventory and remediation of the territory. As such, you act as a specialist in sustainable development, actively participate in the development and implementation of the strategy in this area, provide technical support required by management, conduct, receive and analyze studies and recommend actions to be taken. You contribute to the achievement of sustainable development objectives by collaborating with various internal partners, both with operational services such as asset management, major projects and network operations and maintenance, and with administrative and support services such as procurement, communications and research. You will participate in various internal and external initiatives to improve and integrate sustainable development throughout the Company's value chain, playing an educational and awareness-raising role with the organization's internal and external stakeholders. As such you will :

  • Advise the Director of your division and other divisions about any issues related to the environment and sustainable development ;
  • Implement actions in the multi-year environment and sustainable development action plan and help meet sustainable development goals in collaboration with other divisions ;
  • Assess the environmental impacts of major projects independently or in collaboration with hired firms ;
  • Assess environmental risks and develop control and monitoring measures ;
  • Help develop procedures and protocols and support internal teams on environmental compliance issues ;
  • Implement and maintain the EMS ;
  • Support activities related to FCSAP and FCSI obligations ;
  • Help create and develop processes for the action plan to implement the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy ;
  • Develop and carry out projects to enhance biodiversity and land use as part of a sustainable development approach (enhancing biodiversity, controlling and fighting invasive alien species [IAS], reducing the vulnerability of shoreline areas, reclaiming public space) ;
  • Manage contracts and projects in sustainable development. Provide oversight and administration of assigned contracts, including evaluating work, conducting meetings and negotiating payments ;
  • Monitor, study and recommend best practices in environmental management and sustainable development during the planning, design, implementation and operational phases in relation to the management of JCCBI’s assets ;
  • Develop and maintain relevant performance indicators ;
  • Actively participate in the external outreach of sustainability efforts in collaboration with the Communications team ;
  • Participate in research and innovation initiatives ;
  • Support the implementation of the sustainable procurement approach ;
  • Conduct internal training on relevant EMS practices ;
  • Help the Director prepare budgets and produce regular progress reports and performance indicator tables ;
  • Assist the Director by providing relevant information to prepare various reports, methods or analysis tables and by monitoring initiatives, projects and/or structures ;
  • Perform any other task compatible with your duties.

Required qualification

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree related to the field of science or the environment ;
  • Hold a graduate degree (Master's, DESS, etc.) in a field related to the environment or sustainable sustainable development ;
  • Have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in environment and sustainable development ;
  • Excellent knowledge of federal and provincial environmental regulations ;
  • Good knowledge of federal environmental and sustainable development policies ;
  • Good knowledge of recognized practical guides (PASCF, ISCF, SFDD, LEED, Envision, ISO 14001, 14040 and 14064) ;
  • Knowledge of the following software: MS Project, Excel, Word and Outlook ;
  • Fluent in written and spoken French and English ;
  • Experience in the preparation of specifications (terms of reference) (an asset) ;
  • Be familiar with the life cycle impact of major categories of building materials (an asset) ;
  • Demonstrate transformative leadership skills to initiate and implement change ;
  • Be versatile, rigorous, have a sense of organization and teamwork ;
  • Be aligned with objectives, know how to manage time and priorities to meet deadlines and report assiduously.
