Our client, a multinational multi-disciplinary engineering services company, present in 35 countries, providing design, planning and project management services to a wide variety of clients, is currently seeking for a senior mechanical engineer (HVAC).

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the office manager, your job will be to build up and lead the mechanical discipline within a multidisciplinary buildings team. In this role, you will be part of the core leadership of our client in Montreal. You will also be influencing the strategy of the firm as a whole as a member of the company's leadership team.

  • Leads and develops a team of multidisciplinary engineers with a focus on sustainable design;
  • Manages current and future performance of the team by managing work and developing and mentoring the team for growth;
  • Responsible for recruitment, appraisal, performance, development, morale and motivation of specified staff;
  • Predicts and plan future resources;
  • Promotes learning from successes and problems within the group and across the firm;
  • Responsible for technical leadership of the mechanical group;
  • Manages design of large, complex, long-term projects (technical or business) including coordination with other company's disciplines and external Architects within tight time and budget constraints;
  • Attends meetings and communicate with clients to establish their needs and discuss design issues with them;
  • Develops and implements plans for the longer term benefit of the group in line with the business strategy and contributes to the development of the overall business strategy;
  • Sets and meets agreed budgets and has input into the overall business operating plan;
  • Responsible for business development activities of the group, contributes to putting fees and proposals together;
  • Holds an established network of clients and contacts within the architectural engineering construction industry;
  • Negotiates major contracts with customers/clients and/or suppliers/contractors;
  • Responsible for procuring work independently and can identify potential markets;
  • Responsible and accountable for client relations (internal and/or external);
  • Represents the company in the industry at high levels nationally and internationally, e.g. think tanks, standard committees and international conferences;
  • Carry out any other task upon the request of your superior.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Masters an asset);
  • Relevant years of experience in the similar role in the built environment with major project leadership experience;
  • Professional Engineer Licensed in Quebec;
  • Bilingual in French and English (both written and spoken);
  • LEED accreditation an asset;
  • Demonstrates extensive experience with HVAC and plumbing systems in buildings, sustainable, Low Carbon and innovative strategies on projects;
  • Experience in the application of Canadian Building and Quebec Codes and Standards.
