Our client is a well-established company and a leader in their field. They specialize in the development and manufacture of a wide range of specialized tools and accessories for a diverse clientele. They are currently looking for a project system engineer (automation and process control).

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Head of Engineering and Maintenance, your job will be to manage investment projects involving new equipment, to carry out improvements to a variety of existing equipment, and to optimize the plant's automated systems.

  • Carry out any other task related to your duties.
  • Write up all documentation related to changes affecting equipment (procedures, working instructions, etc.) and have said documentation approved;
  • Always make sure equipment settings and calibrations provide optimal performance;
  • Manage the various contractors involved in specific projects and routine calls;
  • Be the contact person for suppliers for the duration of the project, up to machine start-up;
  • Evaluate the feasibility and profitability of new projects; manage said projects;
  • Work towards decreasing machine downtime and work with the planner on developing a predictive and preventative maintenance plan;
  • Design and make improvements to programmable automatons, man-machine interfaces, and control systems;
  • Answer urgent production calls to solve problems related to PLCs (mainly Siemens);
  • Carry out calls to tender, select suppliers, and purchase equipment;
  • Serve as the primary reference person for automation / control;
  • Work with the quality and production departments in order to optimize product quality and production capacity, and to decrease manufacturing costs;
  • Identify problematic processes and recommend and implement improvements in order to optimize the efficiency of the variety of machinery;

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automated manufacturing engineering, or other relevant education and training;
  • Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec;
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in automation;
  • Fluent in spoken and written French and English;
  • Highly knowledgeable of programmable automatons (Siemens);
  • Able to multitask (manage a number of projects simultaneously).
