Our client is a major manufacturing company specializing in the transformation and the sale of a broad line of organic and inorganic chemicals. They are currently looking for a project, maintenance and process Engineer.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Plant manager, your job will be to provide engineering support/leadership to the plant’s Production, Shipping and Maintenance Departments in the day-to-day operation, special activities, projects, optimization, troubleshooting and changes to achieve safety, environmental, quality and production performance goals.

  • Take leadership role in all phases of small and large projects at the plant level – including development of project scope, cost estimate and approval documentation, detailed engineering design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning and performance testing;
  • Understand, commit to and fulfill responsibilities under Responsible Care®, the Quality Management System and plant Process Safety and Environmental Management Systems;
  • Team closely with Production, Shipping and Maintenance personnel to ensure that project expectations and requirements are clearly defined and resolved;
  • Hire, supervise and coordinate outside consultants, contractors and vendors on contract work and projects;
  • Conduct process hazard/risk reviews and undertake responsibilities (as Originator or Technical Representative) in the Management of Change program. Attend or possibly lead incident investigations as required;
  • Assist other team members with their responsibilities and provide technical support to others as required. Develop procedures and standards to assist Production, Maintenance and Shipping with the stewardship of equipment, materials and techniques for efficient/reliable/cost effective operation. Assist Production and Shipping in troubleshooting process/equipment and process problems in areas of assigned responsibility;
  • Develop engineered solutions for day-to-day operating and maintenance problems, long term business needs, and regulatory compliance;
  • Identify, initiate, and implement improvement opportunities in areas such as process safety, reliability and cost effective operation;
  • Provide back-up support for the Technical Manager as required in his/her absence;
  • Carry out any other task related to your duties.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering or other relevant engineering studies;
  • 8 years related engineering experience in a chemical manufacturing environment (Chlor-alkali production or handling experience an asset);
  • Strong project management skills and experience;
  • Experience with business software platforms including SAP, Microsoft Office, MS Project;
  • Member of l’Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec;
  • Fluent in spoken and written French and English;
  • Experience with technical writing for procedures, work instructions, guides and manuals.
