Our client is a manufacturing company specializing in the manufacture of steelwork components. They are currently looking for a production supervisor.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the director of production, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing the full range of production activities during your shift, making the most efficient use possible of material and human resources in order to meet the company’s productivity, quality, and financial goals.

  • Supervise a team on rotating shifts (between 10 and 20 people);
  • Control manufacturing processes and ensure that production plans are respected;
  • Maximize your presence on the floor, observe, initiate and collaborate on continual improvement of operations;
  • Work in close cooperation with the various departments, such as quality and maintenance, in order to maximize the efficiency of equipment;
  • Meet with your team at the beginning of each shift to inform them of progress of operations and communicate relevant information to the team working the next shift;
  • Oversee, mobilize, develop, and evaluate your staff, work on developing their sense of responsibility and have them take part in decision-making;
  • Manage work schedules for unionized employees;
  • Manage staff on a day-to-day basis (absenteeism, lateness, applying regulations) and apply the collective agreement, making sure that labour needs are filled;
  • Plan, participate in, and carry out monthly health and safety inspections;
  • Plan weekly, monthly, and annual preventative maintenance and update the maintenance tracking table;
  • Help implement and develop company policies and regulations and carry out a process of disciplinary measures when needed;
  • Ensure that the health & safety programs are respected;
  • Promote and provide for a safe workplace in compliance with the company’s policies regarding workplace health and safety;
  • Carry out any other task related to your duties.

Required qualification

  • College diploma in industrial engineering technology, mechanical engineering, or other relevant education;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a supervisor in the manufacturing sector;
  • Experience working with steel (an asset);
  • Analysis and synthesis skills, initiative, sense of responsibility, teamwork, attention to detail, and precision;
  • Very good leadership skills, positive attitude, good listening skills, good judgment;
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office software.
