Our client is a well-established company specializing in the design, manufacture, and installation of automated machinery for the manufacturing sector. They are currently looking for a mechanical designer.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of a project supervisor, you will be responsible for the mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic design of various pieces of machinery manufactured for the company, in addition to working with clients on the installation of equipment and user training.

  • Carry out any other task related to your duties.
  • Write up service, training, and R&D manuals as needed;
  • Monitor quality control from suppliers;
  • Work closely with the other people involved and make sure that efficient communication takes place in the following areas: electrical, mechanical, assembly, tooling, purchasing, and sales;
  • Help with the start-up of equipment, as well as manufacturing and assembly work;
  • Carry out product and component research and get in contact with suppliers;
  • Work with others on design reviews in order to determine the components vis-à-vis the needs relating to the project;
  • Carry out 3D design and modelling of machinery, assembly, and sub-assembly, and as needed, produce 2D manufacturing drawings;
  • Attend project launch meetings;
  • Conduct visits and data collection with clients;

Required qualification

  • College diploma in mechanical engineering, bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or other relevant education and training;
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience;
  • Proficient with parametric design software (SolidWorks, Inventor, etc.), with Autocad, and with the MS Office suite;
  • Highly knowledgeable in the field of automation in machine and equipment manufacturing;
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, electricity, and mechanics;
  • Proficient in spoken and written English;
  • Acquainted with safety standards and techniques applicable to industrial machinery;
  • Available to carry out installation work outside the province of Québec on occasion.
