Our client is a rapidly growing company specializing in the design, manufacture, and installation of, as well as corrective and preventative maintenance to, a wide range of equipment / custom solutions for the primary and secondary food processing sector. They are currently looking for a mechanical designer.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the head of engineering and innovation, your job will be to design equipment in accordance with client needs, while providing support to the manufacturing team and working in cooperation with the various parties involved in the company.

  • Prepare bids based on client requests for preliminary concepts or final designs in order to provide them with the best design options to meet their needs;
  • Design new equipment using SolidWorks and integrating mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and hydraulic requirements, as the case may be;
  • Assess project risks;
  • Look for and select purchased components, taking into account the value for the price;
  • Produce manufacturing plans and the related bills of materials;
  • Ensure that designs that will be used for reference in equipment manufacturing are compliant;
  • Respect design management procedures and standards;
  • Manage the manufacture of parts through subcontractors and external purchases in partnership with the buyer;
  • Take part in start-up of manufactured equipment if needed;
  • Respect workplace health and safety requirements and take part in the implementation of appropriate corrective measures;
  • Support the engineering team in modifications and improvements to existing equipment;
  • Cooperate with others towards reaching department goals;
  • Control project development steps with regards to budgets and schedules;
  • Carry out any other task related to your duties.

Required qualification

  • College diploma in mechanical engineering, Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or other relevant education/training;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience designing industrial machinery;
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks design software;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook);
  • Good knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic elements and their properties;
  • Good knowledge of various manufacturing processes such as welding, assembly, machining, folding, etc;
  • Highly proficient spoken and written French and intermediate-level English;
  • Experience designing and manufacturing equipment related to the food sector is considered an asset;
  • Available to travel to visit clients from time to time.
