Job description

Reporting to the College’s Headmaster, the Director of Studies oversees, manages, and coordinates the majority of activities and services related to academics. Working collaboratively with the leadership team, the Director will actively participate in the development and implementation of the College’s vision, values, strategic orientation, objectives and priorities.

Academic management

  • Ensure the implementation and application of programs of study in accordance with the MEES Certification of Studies policies and procedures;
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Innovation in Teaching & Learning to define the College’s pedagogical strategies, teaching methods and assessment tools;
  • Review and approve all course outlines and assessment plans, ensuring consistency with the College’s policies;
  • Approve the teaching resource selection and oversee the textbook rental program;
  • Establish organizational policies related to students with special needs;
  • Oversee the creation of teacher and student timetables;
  • Ensure the registration, evaluation and promotion of students;
  • Oversee all reports to the MEES;
  • Oversee the production and distribution of report cards;
  • Approve the optional course offering and oversee the course selection process;
  • Oversee the creation of exam schedules and manage the exam procedures;
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget for all pedagogical programs.

Student Management

  • Responsible for the academic and social well-being of secondary III, IV and V students;
  • Communicate proactively with families of Sec III, IV and V students;
  • Participate in various activities related to those grade levels (experiential education, class outings, grade trips);
  • Coordinate student assemblies;
  • Coordinate the College’s opening and closing award ceremonies;
  • Assist with the coordination of the graduation ceremonies.

Personnel management

  • Create the teacher workloads, annually;
  • Coordinate the roles of the academic support staff (academic coordinator, lab technician, learning specialist);
  • Manage student teachers and long-term substitute teachers;
  • Organize and participate in weekly teaching department meetings.

Required qualifications

The ideal candidate actively embraces challenges, demonstrates a passion for innovative pedagogy and how it impacts the future of education, and enjoys working within a dynamic and collaborative team environment.

  • At least 10 years of experience teaching and/or administrative experience at the secondary level;
  • Fluently bilingual with excellent written and oral skills in both French and English;
  • A valid teaching licence combined with a Bachelor’s degree in education;
  • A Master’s degree or certificate in Educational Leadership is preferred;
  • A strong pedagogical background with sound knowledge of various forms of student assessment and evaluation;
  • Technological literacy and a demonstrated understanding of the role of technology as a tool for learning;
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate in pedagogical and curricular areas;
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and implementing change;
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and mentoring skills;
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively under time constraints and conflicting demands;
  • Sound judgment, diplomacy, and service-oriented attitude;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams (staff, students and parents) to establish goals, objectives, and action plans.
