Our client is a prominent world-class company with a presence on multiple continents. They are currently looking for a Director of Production for their plant manufacturing medical supplies, located in Montréal.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the VP of Operations, you will be responsible for the full range of production activities. Within this context, you will provide efficient management of resources, including a team of 6 managers, who in turn oversee supervisors, team leaders, and their staff. In addition, you will promote a culture of workplace health and safety, quality, and customer service, all with the target of continually improving each of these.

  • Prioritize, coordinate, and manage the full range of daily production activities;
  • Monitor laboratory productivity daily in cooperation with the laboratory managers;
  • Take charge of the company’s various programs and projects involving production;
  • Identify productivity improvement priorities, propose the necessary improvements to the VP of Operations, and recommend and implement, if need be, the methods and tools necessary to improve productivity and quality and to reduce operational costs;
  • Mobilize your team to work towards continual improvement of processes and serve as a reference person for the managers in place and as a coach to help them reach objectives;
  • Establish individual and group objectives for the members of your team, in line with corporate objectives, and follow up on them;
  • Monitor performance indicators for the sectors for which you are responsible and communicate the results with the appropriate parties;
  • Ensure that continual improvement initiatives are aligned with laboratory objectives;
  • Ensure that the maintenance director’s preventative maintenance plan fosters productivity, and that the integrated maintenance management system is used to its full potential;
  • Actively participate as an agent of change in implementing and maintaining any workplace health and safety measure and/or program and serve as an active member of the workplace health and safety committee;
  • Based on the company’s objectives, set out annual objectives for the departments and managers under your purview and ensure that these objectives and issues are understood by the staff at large;
  • Foster a workplace climate of respect, cooperation, motivation, accountability, and productivity;
  • Identify the training and professional development needs of your staff and inform the head of the human resource department of them;
  • Ensure that internal policies, procedures, work methods, and regulations are applied;
  • Carry out any other task related to your duties.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, chemical engineering, etc.) or any other combination of relevant education and experience;
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience;
  • Significant experience in the manufacturing sector;
  • Experience managing personnel;
  • Bilingual (spoken and written French and English);
  • Knowledgeable of Lean Manufacturing and tools for continual improvement, such as Kaizen, 5S, etc.;
  • Proficient with standard computer-based tools;
  • Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (an asset).
