Bureau international des droits des enfants

Based in Montreal (Canada) since 1994, the International Bureau for Children's Rights (IBCR) is an international non-governmental organisation whose mission is to contribute to the promotion and protection of children's rights around the world.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is the foundation of IBCR's work. The IBCR is inspired by the principles laid down by the international community and has had special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 2003.

The IBCR’s mission is to contribute to the promotion of and respect for the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) andits three protocols; the Optional Protocol on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography, the Optional Protocol on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict, and the Optional Protocol on a Communications Procedure. The CRC, adopted by the UN in 1989, is the most widely ratified international legal instrument, with 192 State Parties to date. The CRC and its optional protocols are the raison d’être of the IBCR and comprise the guiding principles of our child rights-based approach.
